Types of Gas Logs and Inserts for Your Fireplace

Choose a stunning, clean-burning hearth product.

gas logs Fuquay-Varina, NC With nighttime temperatures coming down in Fuquay-Varina, across Wake County and throughout the surrounding area, a lot of households are starting to light fires in their hearths. This is also the time of year when more LG Jordan Oil & Gas customers speak to us about adding gas logs and other fireplace products to their homes.

Gas fireplaces are fantastic ways to add a little extra warmth and a lot of cozy ambiance to your living spaces. But there are many options to choose from, and it helps to have an experienced installer help guide you in your installation. That’s where the LG Jordan team comes in. Let’s discuss the different types of gas logs and other gas fireplaces.

What’s your energy source?

You can have a gas fireplace powered by propane or natural gas. If your home has a natural gas connection, your gas log, hearth insert or freestanding fireplace will connect directly to your gas line. By contrast, propane products would connect to a home propane tank, which needs to be refilled when it runs low. If you use your propane fireplace occasionally throughout the year, it should only consume 25-75 gallons of fuel annually.

Do you have an existing fireplace or venting?

Homes with functional chimneys and hearths would use a natural vent fireplace product that draws in air and vents combustion products through the chimney. A direct-vent gas fireplace insert or a gas log is an excellent option for these homes.

You can also use a direct vent standalone fireplace or you run venting out of your home to expel combustion products.

For homes without an existing vent or chimney, there are ventless gas fireplaces. These systems produce smaller flames and less heat to limit the amount of combustion products released in your home. There may be restrictions on where you can install ventless gas fireplaces, and LG Jordan can help determine if and where they are permitted in your area.

Is a gas fireplace worth it?

The customers for whom we install gas logs and other fireplace products tend to love them. You can experience some considerable advantages with a gas fireplace compared to a wood-burning fire:

  1. It cuts down on your work. There’s no chopping wood, adding logs, stoking flames or cleaning up. Just push a button or flip a switch, and you’re ready to go!
  2. It reduces fire hazards in your home. You don’t need to fret about a burning log or ember escaping your hearth.
  3. It is better for your home’s air quality. Wood fires emit a huge amount of fine particulate matter, a known carcinogen. Gas fireplaces are virtually particulate-free.
  4. They last a long time. With proper care, your gas fireplace could last for 25 years!

As you can see, investing in a gas log or fireplace is a great call for your home comfort and quality of life.
