Are you adding a propane hearth or fireplace to your home? If so, you’ll have to choose a gas log set to go with it. All the various options may seem confusing. But we’ll tell you what you need to know so you feel comfortable making the choice.
LG Jordan has gas log sets in a wide range of sizes and styles to choose from right in our showroom! We’ll help you select the right one for your fireplace or hearth. And we’ll provide the reliable, safe propane delivery that you need.

Choose the right size gas log set

Before you can select the new gas log set for your hearth, you need to do a little homework.
If the logs are for a fireplace, you need to measure the fireplace. It needs to be clean and free of any obstructions. Take these measurements:

  • Width at the front of the fireplace
  • Width at the back of the fireplace
  • The distance between the front of the fireplace and the back
  • The inside height of the fireplace

This information helps the gas log experts at LG Jordan make sure that you get the right size and scale gas logs for your hearth.

What’s your gas log style?

You have a wide range of looks to choose from when it comes to gas log sets. You can choose the classic oak, a more modern white birch, and coastal driftwood, or the rustic look of weathered low-country timber.
You can also add accessories like fire glass and faux pine cones to a vented fireplace. Ventless fireplaces cannot have those accessories in them.

There are other things to consider beside size and style.
Make sure the logs you choose are compatible with the gas you’re using, whether it’s propane or natural gas.
You need to know which vent type of gas log you need.
Are you using your gas logs in an existing masonry fireplace with a chimney? You will likely need vented gas logs. If you don’t have a chimney or a working wood fireplace, you’ll need ventless gas logs.
Another thing you need to know is the dimensions of your flue. If it is 8 inches in diameter or smaller, a professional will need to inspect it to determine whether it can use gas logs other than the ones that came with the fireplace.
If your fireplace is sealed and vents directly out the back, you have a direct-vent fireplace and can only use the logs that came with the fireplace.
