How Long a Grill Tank Lasts

The standard size cylinder for most propane grills is the 20-pound tank. A medium-sized grill can get about 18 to 20 hours of cooking time from one 20-pound propane cylinder. A larger grill may burn through an entire cylinder in 10 hours. And, of course, if your grill is connected to a natural gas line, you’ll have all the fuel you need.

Cleaning Your Propane Grill

One of the things that makes grilling with gas so appealing is its low amount of cleanup work compared to charcoal. After each cooking session, you can simply clean your grates and racks using a stainless-steel brush. Scraping off any burnt food and grease is enough.

Every six months, however, it’s a good idea to do a thorough cleaning to prevent the accumulation of grease and other debris that can create a fire risk. Be sure to empty the grease trap, remove any ash that’s built up and wipe down all grates, racks, burners, heat deflectors and other components.

Why Your Propane Grill Won’t Light

Most gas grills these days are equipped with a push-button ignitor. Just hold down the button while slowly turning the knobs on your grill. You should hear the ignitor click, and your burners will fire up with a row of blue flames.

If this doesn’t happen, turn the knobs back to the off setting and wait two minutes for the gas to dissipate. Try again and see if it lights. If not, there are a few potential issues you should look for:

  • Is the valve on your propane cylinder open?
  • Are all connections to your grill tight?
  • Is there any moisture on your burners? Wiping it off should help.
  • Are there blockages in the ports of your burners? You can easily clear them with a toothpick with the grill off and the gas supply closed.
  • If you don’t hear a click when you push the ignitor button, it might need new batteries.

Did these troubleshooting steps fix the issue? If not, contact the LG Jordan team, and we will help you.
