Efficiency matters. The more efficient your fuel is at heating your home, the lower your heating costs become.
Propane furnaces are tops at heating air quickly and can reach between 130˚ and 140˚ Fahrenheit. Electric heat pumps can’t warm your air as well as propane, only reaching about 98˚ Fahrenheit. That warmer air means your home stays comfortable longer and your furnace does not have to run as frequently to maintain that desired temperature—especially in the colder months out of the year. An electric heat pump must work more frequently for longer periods of time, driving up your energy costs.
As with real estate, propane heating costs are about location, location, location.
Heating estimates are based on three climate categories including mild, moderate, and severe. The lowest average temperature in mild climate zones is 30 degrees Fahrenheit. States in moderate climate zones range from a low of 30 degrees F to 10 degrees and states in severe climate zones have average low temperatures that range from 10 degrees F to anywhere as low as -50 degrees.
This is how location affects heating costs:
Not only do you get efficient heating with propane, but you also get security, reliability and versatility that can’t be matched.
Your propane supply is right there at your home. If the electricity goes out in a storm, your heat pump won’t work. If we’re in a cold snap, that could get dangerous for you and your home.
Propane can do so many other things around your home, including water heating, cooking, clothes drying, and powering whole-house backup generators too!
